Don’t be complacent if you are needing a new job…

You may be the best in your industry in terms of experience, skills and academics, but this does not give you the excuse to be complacent when considering applying for a new job.

Even if the Hiring Manager is confident of your ability to do the job, unless you hit the required score during the interview process, you will be rejected.

How do you ensure that your Professional CV is shortlisted for interview? There are a few basic tips to consider which are CV presentation, accuracy of your employment history and highlighting your relevant achievements and key skills.

Your CV should be reviewed against the job description and person specification ensuring all key requirements are covered off. A strong personal profile with highlighted key skills is a great way to quickly gain the interest of the Recruiter which will encourage them to read your CV in full. Your personal profile should say what you are in terms of job title followed by key strengths and skills which are relevant to the role. Key skills should be listed ideally in a key skills box and should cover off the required skills of the job which you are applying for.

Many CVs we see only highlight key and significant achievements with no career history detailed. Avoid the trap of assuming that a Recruiter will automatically know what you have done based on job title only… You need to ensure your day-to-day duties and responsibilities, which are aligned to the job you are applying for, are clearly listed in bullet style.
