I want to change career and need help with my CV

I want to change career and need help with my CV

This is a popular statement where many job seekers are fed up of their current job and industry and want to move into a completely different role and often at a lower level than they are currently working at.

It’s unfortunately not so easy to change career completely and the process of trying can be extremely disheartening and demoralising when you apply for jobs you are genuinely interested in, but you either do not receive a reply or you are rejected time and time again.

So how do you overcome these brick walls? It’s important to understand firstly what the essential requirements of the vacancy are. In some roles, soft skills are essential and technical knowledge and experience is not, so you have a great chance of being recognised as a potential applicant. Where the job vacancy is seeking essential technical knowledge, skills and qualifications which you do not have, you will be wasting your time applying for the role because the demands of the role are too specific.

It’s highly likely that your career to date has given you some amazing experience and the skills which are relevant for the job you wish to apply for are going back a few years. In order to have a chance of being shortlisted for your ideal job, you will need to minimise your current role which is not relevant to the job and bring forward your inspiring achievements and day-to-day duties and responsibilities from a job which is relevant. Complement this with key skills which are found in the job description and ensure you have a stand-out personal profile which will encourage the Recruiter to explore further into your suitability for the job.
